Scarlet started out on the well respected label Tribunal and received high acclaim for their debut EP Breaking the Dead Stare They are compared (like countless other bands) to Converge and Dillinger Escape Plan. I personally think they sound a lot like Norma Jean. After a lengthy disappearing act, Scarlet are back and ready to unleash more schizophrenic fury upon the masses. Although I am not sure which original members are still in the band, what I do know is whatever lineup they are going with right now hits the spot. The Band have signed with Ferret Records(www.ferretstyle.com) and last week, Ferret released a limited edition Scarlet "Promo EP" titled Something To Lust About. The band is currently back in the studio recording their debut full length for Ferret, which is tentatively titled, Cult Classic Scarlet probably released Something To Lust About to build momentum for thier relaunch and I think this plan will work. While the EP features very short songs and is only 12 minutes long, it manages to showcase the band's potential. The tracks Revolver and Erotic Antibiotic show off the band's hardcore abilities while Sell Yourself and Suicide Kings show off more of an industrial sound. The only complaint about this EP is that most of the songs are rather short and leave you wanting more. This was probably planned though, as the EP is serving as more of a taste for what is to come. While it's hard to say if Scarlet will become the next big thing in the very competitive hardcore scene, they have a lot going for them. Hopefully on Cult Classic they can blend their hardcore and industrial sounds to form a refreshing sound.
